During our lives events happen to unknown people who have an impact on us. This is what happened with the Calabresi murder on May 17, fifty years ago. The society has debated it for a long time and beyond the story itself, as dramatic as those times were, there is one aspect, that I could call minute, which concerns the commissioner's family. On this Gemma Calabresi Milite brings light today with a book from the subtitle "on the path of forgiveness". On the cover a young bride laughs happy while holding a man in the background: "The crack and the light" (ed. Mondadori 2022) brings to the foreground her, a 25-year-old girl who remains widowed with two young children and one coming. The frightening vacuum created in her is described in short chapters, with a non-linear time shift of those who try to line up their blanks according to their importance and not their progression. It is the personal story of a woman who had to become strong despite it, as happens to so many women we know. Because not only did he face the pain of losing such a beloved husband, but then also the slander that fell upon her and the image of the murdered husband.
In his journey there is the need to return to being a daughter and then the determination to resume his life in his hand and return to being a mother, on a journey made, like that of all of us, of attempts, fallen, laughter, constantly flanked by the fact that his happiness was crushed by the gun of a man and his accomplices, in a period in which killing was part of an ideology that shaped those years.
Those who wrote them "who makes the expectation" by judging before even knowing, will never know that the violence of words is often equal to that of action. Yet, the photo of the adult author, is that of a serene woman, deep, delicate, who with this book teaches us many things that I would say, are all important, while in the background the violent, immersed in the darkness of the shadow.
